BOURNE LEGACY |
Story: The past still haunts Aaron Cross. No wonder his present is all deadly and dangerous.
Perhaps this is what happens when you get so used to seeing the same guy play your rough and tough hero in this day and age of hi-tech special effects, over and over again. The Bourne Legacy is not based on any novel by Robert Ludlum. Neither does it star Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. In fact, Jason Bourne is missing. Here it's Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner). Now that feels a little let down for starters. But once you are over with that, time to move on.
Cast: Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Scott Glenn, Donna Murphy
Direction: Tony Gilroy
Genre: Action
Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes
Movie Review: Taking off from where Bourne Ultimatum ended, this film deals with agencies and deadly operations: Operation Blackbriar, Operation Outcome, Operation Treadstone and Operation Blackbriar. And what exactly are they up to? Well, they are experimenting and tampering with science in order to create super agents that are faster and stronger than any other agent ever found on planet Earth. Reason enough for our new found Bourne to wage a long-drawn battle that sees him doing almost everything: indulging in runs-for-life where he leaps across shacks, hits hard, shoots fast. However, it is only when he fights the Alaskan wolves does he do what it takes to be a part of the Bourne brigade. And that's when you know you can't really blame Jeremy Renner for the slow pace (understandably the plot building screen time) in the first half.

Of course, this Bourne film gives you relentless action primarily during the last motorcycle scene. The first time you are on the edge of the seat is during the shootout-at-the-lab scene. The final kick -- by Rachel Weisz in a we-wish-it-never-ended-bike-chase - makes up for all that legacy stuff we have been waiting for.
